The Danbury Museum & Historical Society Authority is pleased to announce two very special author events scheduled for this weekend at the museum.

On Saturday, December 20, 2014, Danbury resident and self-published author, Theresa Buzaid will be at the museum from noon until 4:00 p.m. to sell and sign her new, illustrated children’s book, The Great Danbury State Fair A to Z (Mascot Books).

There is a certain time of the year in Connecticut when the end of summer meets the beginning of fall. You can sense and smell the change in the air. You didn’t need a calendar to know that it was time for the fair. The Great Danbury State Fair was one of the best fairs in America. For one week a year, for 113 years, it was the social, cultural, and economic event for miles around. It was fun for the whole family.

On Sunday, December 21, 2014 we welcome back Danbury native and author, Mary Curran Hackett back to the museum at 3:00 p.m. to celebrate the release of her second novel, Proof of Angels (William Morrow/Harper Collins). Join us in The Marian Anderson Studio and the book sale and signing in our Huntington Hall gift shop. Proof of Angels is an unforgettable novel about hope, renewal, and the gift of angels among us—friends, family, lovers . . . and even mystical others—sure to touch your heart.

Proof of Angels, Curran Hackett’s first novel was critically acclaimed and drew many local residents during her visit to the museum in 2011.

Both events are free and open to the public which will also be open.

Tom Burger will give the free presentation, “Homegrown Hero: The Life of Benjamin Delaheuf Foulois” on Sunday, December, 21 at 1:00 pm in the Wykeham Room of the Gunn Memorial Library and Museum in Washington, Connecticut.

Benjamin Foulois is of one of Washington’s most famous residents. Growing up in Washington, and attending The Gunnery, Benjamin Foulois always had a thirst for adventure and glory. While being expected to enter the family plumbing business, Ben ran away from Washington, enlisted in the military, and left his mark by becoming the Chief of the Army Air Corps in World War One, a leader in the creation of the Air Force, and most importantly, the first military aviator in the United States Armed Forces.

The contributions of General Benjamin Foulois are still visible today, in both his small hometown of Washington, Connecticut and especially in the world of military aviation.

The exhibit, Over There: Washington and The Great War, will also be open for viewing in the Gunn Museum from 12-4pm, the day of this presentation. The exhibit shares the story of Washington, Connecticut’s contributions to WWI. The exhibit and associated programs are supported in part by a grant from the Connecticut Community Foundation.
